I have tried to load Internet Explorer 5.5, but my computer tells me that a previous program installation was never completed and that I need to restart it in order to complete that installation. I have, but the message still appears. What can I try next?
This error message occurs if Windows was not restarted when requested by some previous setup program, which needed to update files that were in use by Windows. The problem may disappear if you simply restart Windows and run the Internet Explorer 5.5 Setup again.
It sounds as if it didn't in your case, however. In this instance, you should locate and delete the file wininit.ini (which should be in your Windows folder) before rerunning Setup. If that still doesn't solve the problem, try clearing out your Temp folder and emptying the Temporary Internet Files folder.
